Consultants, Inc. is a not-for-profit corporation started in
1986 with two (2) Fairweather Lodge programs. The Fairweather
Lodge program is a community based psychosocial rehabilitation
program for individuals with severe and persistent mental
illness. These programs, based on the philosophy of Dr. George
Fairweather, were pilot programs started by placing individuals
in the community from Clinton Valley Center. At Clinton Valley
Center, the individuals targeted for placement were part of a
Fairweather 'Step Down" ward. These individuals were given the
opportunity to step down from restricted ward settings to a ward
that would allow them more freedom and inter-dependence. In
addition, the individuals targeted for placement worked as a
cohesive group, using the principles of Fairweather Lodges to
make decisions that would benefit them in the community. A group
of nine (9) individuals were placed at Peacock Lodge in Pontiac,
Michigan
and Bingham Farms Lodge in Bingham Farms, Michigan. Using the principles
of Fairweather, these individuals moved into residential homes,
opened their own business,
Ever-Glo Janitorial, and
became incorporated. Currently, D & M Consultants, Inc. has two
(2) Lodge programs; Premier Lodge and Kinsel Lodge, both in
Southfield, Michigan. There are 12 consumers between the Lodges. In addition, D & M Consultants, Inc. opened two (2)
semi-independent apartment programs (SIPs) in 1987 for
individuals with severe and persistent mental illness. Currently
D & M Consultants, Inc. operates an apartment program in Auburn
Hills, Michigan, a shared housing program in Royal Oak,
Michigan, as well as two
Specialized Residential Programs in Macomb County and one in Oak Park.
All programs are staffed with 24 hour on-call monitoring. Daily
staffing hours may vary according to the needs of the individual
served. Services provided include medication monitoring and
training, assistance with finances and budgeting,
transportation, vocational and employment training, and
therapeutic and recreational services, among others.
Currently D &
M Consultants, Inc. contracts with Easter Seals of Southeast Michigan, Community Network Services, Training and Treatment Innovations, Inc.
and Macomb Oakland Regional Center. Additionally, D & M works with the Michigan Department of Corrections and the Prisoner Re-Entry Program. D & M also accepts
referrals for private pay services.
The D & M
Consultants management team together have over 50 years of
experience in providing services to mentally ill and
developmentally disabled adults in community settings.
Team members
have been involved in and participated on various state and
national committees, such as the National Coalition for
Community Living, the International Association of Psychosocial
Rehabilitation, the Michigan Fairweather Issues Group, the
Association for Mental Health Services and the Alliance for
Mentally Ill, etc. |
